What do you call a man in fancy dress riding a bike that doesn’t move? Well, as well as a dedicated follower of fair-trade fashion, committed fundraiser for the Meningitis Trust...

Ealing resident Matt Weaver has pledged to raise at least £1000 by cycling over 300 kilometres from London to Paris in aid of the Meningitis Trust. And he’s hoping to generate a chunk of it at Ealing Fairtrade fashion show in Northfields on Saturday 3rd March where he will be attempting to complete a five-hour ride on a static bike while in fancy dress.

“I promised those who sponsored me that I would do several mini challenges before June 8th once I raised certain amounts,” said Matt. “Although 5 hours will be very hard work, I’m more worried about getting my legs waxed when I reach £1000!”

The 24-year-old Analytical Consultant explained his dedication to the cause: “The main reason for attempting this challenge is because it is actually a charity that is very close to my heart,” he said.  “They have been very supportive to a member of my family over the years who has suffered from the illness. This has persuaded me to raise money for the charity so they can continue to do the great work that they do.

“Meningitis is a vicious disease that can kill in a matter of hours. By going on this long distance cycle challenge for the Meningitis Trust I will be helping raise vital funds to beat it. Although it’s going to be hard work, I am really looking forward to setting off from London with the team of cyclists all doing our bit in helping fight Meningitis.”

Meningitis Trust Event Organiser Sarah Langton says: “We welcome Matt to our team of cyclists going from London to Paris. You still have time to join him on this amazing challenge. You are guaranteed to bring back memories that will last forever while helping to raise funds which will enable the Meningitis Trust to continue its important work.”
