Public dispersal order issued for Copley Close

In response to reports that there is a significant problem with groups of people gathering in the Copley Close area near the Old Bill Public House, Police and the Council have issued a public dispersal order in the area. Some of the anti-social activities reported include drugs activity, street drinking, noise nuisance, criminal damage, street fighting, intimidation, verbal abuse, intimidation and harassment of the public and local residents.

A Notice for the Dispersal of Groups and Removal of Persons Under the Age of 16 to their Home Address has been issued, valid from 18th April until 17th October 2006.

Under the order, a Constable / PCSO may give one or more of the following directions:

 

•  Tell people in the group to disperse
•  Tell people who don't live in the affected area to leave
•  Tell people who don't live in the affected area not to return to the affected area or any part of it for such period (not exceeding 24 hours) from when the direction was given, as he / she may specify.

People under 16 may not be allowed to be here between the hours of 9pm and 6am unless under the effective control of a parent or responsible person over the age of 18.  They may be sent home or to a place of safety if more appropriate.

Community and Partnership Superintendent Ian Jenkins of Ealing Borough Police said:

 

�The Safer Ealing Partnership is committed to maintaining an appropriate and targeted response to crime and anti-social behaviour issues on Ealing Borough. We believe this dispersal order will further enhance the community's quality of life and help achieve a sustained reduction of crime and disorder in the area.�

 

Susan Parsonage, Ealing Council's head of envirocrime prevention, said:

 

� Residents in this area should be able to live without fear and intimidation. Ealing Council will support the police in every way possible on this initiative as we are determined to restore the quality of life for this community.�
