Brentford Footballers Injured After Intervening in 'Racist Attack'
Pair ‘bloodied’ during incident in Richmond

Two first team footballers at Brentford FC are reported to have been injured during an incident that took place in Richmond in the early hours of Sunday (22 March).
According to an article in the Telegraph’s sport section, they were on Queen’s Road, which leads up to Richmond Hill, returning home after the team had secured a point away to Leeds on Saturday evening.
They witnessed a man being assaulted in what appeared to them to be a racially motivated attack. They intervened to calm things down which resulted them being ‘bloodied’ according to witnesses. Neither of the players, who have not been named, is believed to have been seriously hurt and it is understood that the blood on their persons was from the victim.
The Metropolitan Police arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of common assault, attempted criminal damage and a racially aggravated public order offence on Tuesday. He has since been released on bail.
A second person, who was allegedly targeted with racially aggravated verbal abuse, has come forward since earlier coverage of the incident.
According to the Telegraph, the players had not travelled back with the rest of the team from the fixture due to the forthcoming international break in which many players are leaving for various destinations to represent their country.
International squads in which Brentford has more than one player include Denmark and the Republic of Ireland.
Brentford FC declined to comment.
