Replays will be augmented with shot speeds and player names
April 10, 2024 Brentford FC is set for a Premier League first this Saturday (13 April) by providing AI-enabled data-driven highlights for fans at the Gtech Community Stadium. The crunch match against Sheffield United will see the unveiling of the new enhanced matchday experience which will also be available on social media after the final whistle. It will provide in-game replays with augmented highlights including shot speeds, shot trails, player names and pitch maps. The club has partnered with Genius Sports to provide this service for the rest of the season. Genius Sports powers data-driven alternate broadcasts on the Premier League, NFL and NBA in partnership with Premier League Productions, CBS, Prime Video and ESPN. As the official tracking data and analytics partner to the Premier League, Genius Sports’ Dragon technology captures 10,000 surface mesh data points per player, over 200 times per second for every Brentford game. Dragon applies computer vision to combine rich tracking data with broadcast video in real-time, providing Brentford fans with vital context to every play. Steve Watts, marketing services director at Brentford, commented, “Everything we do at Brentford is through a fan-first perspective. Whilst we rate highly for matchday experience, we are always looking at ways we can improve and add something a little different when attending a game at the Gtech. "As a club that owes much to a data-driven approach, we wanted to meet the appetite of fans who are also extremely interested in this aspect of the game. We think the additional analysis will be enjoyed by the majority of fans whether attending in person or post-match on socials.” More good news for Brentford fans has come with the announcement that half price tickets are to be offered for the forthcoming away fixture with Everton. The move has been made due to a potential change of kick-off time because of fixture clashes with the Champions League. At the moment, supporters are scheduled to travel to Goodison Park for another potentially vital clash on Saturday 27 April. The game has already had its kick off time moved for Sky TV, but the game may be switched to Sunday depending on Manchester City’s Champions League progress. Sally Stephens, Brentford’s fan and community relations director, said, “By offering tickets at a reduced price, we hope to encourage as many fans as possible to make the trip up to Liverpool for this crucial game. “We understand the commitment of the fans who follow Brentford around the country to back Thomas and the team. This is a small gesture to say ‘thank you’ and to acknowledge the uncertainty surrounding this particular game. “We did consider putting on free coach travel, something which was initially suggested by BIAS [Brentford Independent Association of Supporters], but we know many fans will travel by car or may have already booked their train tickets. "So, we felt that by covering part of the ticket costs, it would mean that all fans attending could benefit.” The Premier League already has a £30 cap for away tickets so Brentford fans will pay no more than £15. With the subsidy, over-65s tickets are now priced at £12.50, with under-18s just a tenner. Tickets for the Category B away match are currently available to season ticket and premium seat holders. All My Bees members can purchase from Thursday 11 April at 2pm.
