Own Goal Sinks Bees

Brentford 0 - Brighton 1

Brentford sank to their second loss on the bounce this evening as Brighton continued their promotion push at the summit of League One.

It wasn't all doom and gloom with both sides having chances to score throughout the game - Sam Saunders was particularly lively for the home side and was denied a few times by Albion keeper Ankergren. Saunders was at the heart of most of Brentford's plus points this evening, although debutant Adam Reed also had some decent moments.

At the other end Richard Lee was again in fine form, making an impressive early one handed save from Murray and later saving a second half Barnes penalty after an Osborne foul. Lee is fast becoming a cult hero at Brentford but could do nothing about the winning goal when Karleigh sliced the ball into his own net in the 74th minute (it did look a bit like the Bees defender was being fouled at the time)....

Unfortunately this caused Brentford's heads to drop a bit - and Karleigh to fall apart - as the Bees failed to reconstruct the pressure that they had started to build before the goal.

Brentford lost Charlie Mac to injury in the first half after what looked like a fairly heavy - and illegal - challenge from Kishishev. His replacement Robbie Simpson was fairly anonymous and Brentford's attacking options must be an area of some concern for Nicky Forster.

Brentford now face Charlton (away) on Saturday and Huddersfield at Griffin Park next Tuesday as they seek to earn the points to guarantee League One survival. With a bit of self belief we are plenty good enough to stay up, and our football is enjoyable to watch at times. It's certainly not time to panic just yet.
