As GCSE and A-Level results are being announced across the country this month, many students will be celebrating, whilst some students will be considering their options after underachieving on their GCSE and A-Level exams. For many A-Level students it can feel like a daunting task to decide whether or not to retake subjects, and GCSE students with poor exam results will have to decide whether to retake or move forward on a different path from the A-Level Programme.

“Don’t be discouraged,” Michelle Thompson, who joined EIC in September 2015, says. “Even though it has not worked this time around, it is by no means the end. I personally feel it is better to retake subjects you didn’t do well in, get a better grade and go to university a year later than settling for results that don’t reflect your true capabilities. I understand the thought of not going to university with your friends might be hard, and honestly at the beginning I was a little embarrassed about having to retake the year. But take it from me; there is nothing to be embarrassed about, and I can honestly say I am so happy that I re-sat my subjects. I have been able to apply and get an offer from my dream university after completing the A-Level Intensive Year at EIC”.

Mohamed Yagoub joined EIC for the two year A-Level Programme in September 2013 with poor GCSE results, after deciding he needed a change from his current school. “Unlike my previous school, EIC is a small college with small class sizes. This means that the teacher can give each student more attention, gets to know them very well, and is also much more approachable. For example, if you are sitting in the study room and working on your homework and you find a question or topic that you are struggling with, you can go knock on the staff room door and ask to speak to your teacher, and they would happily help you. It is a great relationship between the students and the staff, and exactly what I needed to progress. After meeting with the Principal, Dr Moores, I was convinced that EIC was the right place for me,” Mohamed comments. Choosing a College to retake subjects or continue on the GCSE and A-Level Programmes is the next daunting task once the decision has been made. Michelle and Mohamed share why they chose to join Ealing Independent College.

“I chose to retake my A-Levels at the College because of the wonderful reviews I saw online”, Michelle says. “I did a wide comparison of Independent Schools all over London and Surrey. Michelle has received a conditional offer from her first choice university, Newscastle University, to study Biomedical Science, and Mohamed has received a conditional offer from his first choice university, London School of Economics, to study Finance.
