Most secondaries in the borough well above national average
The latest official data shows that the majority of Wandsworth’s schools have above average GCSE results. The information is based on measures including Attainment 8, which is an average score across eight GCSE subjects, including English and maths. The higher the score, the better a school’s result. Across Wandsworth the average Attainment 8 score was 50.5 (excluding special schools). This was well above the England average of 46.7 for state-funded schools. In Wandsworth, the top scorer was Graveney School with an Attainment 8 score of 61.8. This was followed by Ashcroft Technology Academy, with a score of 57.7. However, there were three schools in the borough with Attainment 8 scores below the national average. These were Southfields Academy (44.2), Ark Putney Academy (43.4) and Ernest Bevin College (43.1).
The Department for Education figures also looked at students’ Progress 8 score – a measure which monitors pupils’ progress between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4. A Progress 8 score of 1.0 means pupils made, on average, a grade more progress than the national average. A score of -0.5 means they make on average half a grade less progress than average. In total four of Wandsworth’s secondary schools performed “well above average,” based on their Progress 8 score. Harris Academy Battersea received an impressive score of 0.92. No schools were graded “below average” for their Progress 8 score in the borough, showing that pupils are making good progress throughout Wandsworth. This data is for state schools only. Some schools do not publish their data because they are new schools that do not have any pupils taking GCSEs yet, or have a very small number of pupils where publication could lead to them being identified.
