Over 200 businesses have already signed up to Hounslow Council’s ShopLocal voucher scheme which will see every household in the borough given £20 to spend.

The borough is set to become the first local authority in London set up such a scheme which aims to help support the local economy recover from the impacts of Covid-19, by encouraging ‘’in-person’ spending rather than online.

Set up in partnership with Evouchers the initiative will mean that every household should receive a unique individual code via the post towards the end of August and will have until 7 December to spend the voucher on products or services at a range of businesses including cafes, cinemas, restaurants, health and wellbeing organisations, laundrettes and many more.

Participating businesses included the Beehive pub in Brentford, Marmalade Fine Jewellery on Turnham Green Terrace, Grove Park Deli, the Chiswick Food Market on Dukes Meadows, Macken Brothers and the Hogarth Health Club. For a full list of where you can spend the vouchers click here.

Local businesses can still apply to join the initiative for free by visiting this link.

Participating businesses will receive free promotion from the Council and be included on an interactive map to help residents establish where they can spend the voucher.

“Every household will have the opportunity to explore our fantastic range of shops and venues.

“By shopping locally, we can all do our bit to help Hounslow recover from the pandemic and foster a longer-term culture of supporting our high streets keeping the pound in Hounslow.”

Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services added, “Businesses in Hounslow contribute so much towards the vibrant, diverse borough we love.

“We are proud of how our businesses responded to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions with immense resilience and flexibility. Now we want to support them in every way possible to rebuild.

“The ShopLocal voucher provides an innovative way of encouraging a return to the highstreets and injecting cash into the local economy.

“By shopping local you are supporting the heart of our local communities, saving independent businesses and jobs.”

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied.
