A police investigation is to be carried out into allegations of fraud at Hounslow Homes, the housing department of Hounslow Council.

Hounslow Homes is tasked with managing the council’s 16,500 homes, providing a range of services from home improvement works, to rents, caretaking and grounds maintenance works.

Hounslow Council's statement said: "Following an independent investigation into allegations of fraud concerning Hounslow Homes, Hounslow Council and Hounslow Homes can confirm that the police are to carry out their own investigation."

Cllr Steve Curran, Cabinet Member for Housing, Planningand Regeneration, said: “As soon as these issues became apparent, we took action.  An independent investigation was conducted, and the findings of this have been passed to the police, who have subsequently confirmed that will be will be carrying out their own investigation based on the independent findings.

“Clearly, with the case being legally active, we cannot comment on the detail of what was discovered. But what I can say is that the council, and the new Hounslow Homes Management Team, will not tolerate any kind of fraud. If it is reported to us we take those reports extremely seriously and they are investigated and acted on.”

There are unconfirmed reports that two people have been sacked and one person has resigned.
