The Metropolitan Police Service has revealed that Hammersmith Police Station's front counter service will be moved to Shepherd's Bush during its redevelopment, which is expected to begin by the end of this year and take around two years to complete.

The front counter is the only one in the borough offering a round the clock service.

This move is among proposals on show at a public exhibition taking place at Hammersmith Police Station in Shepherd's Bush Road over the next three days.

The Met Police Service says it is holding the exhibition to show off proposals to expand and refurbish Hammersmith Police Station.

It says the station in Shepherd's Bush Road is an important site, but it currently fails to provide a modern policing facility and it is in need of significant redevelopment.

According to the police, proposed major improvements will deliver new state-of-the-art facilities including:

· A modern environment with a focus on mobile digital technology to enable officers to report and respond in the community.

· Maintaining 24/7 Front Counter public access and the Grade II Listed façade.

· Improved and expanded stables that would maintain the popular presence of mounted police in the Hammersmith area.

· More flexible and increased floorspace to accommodate additional personnel.

· A new and expanded custody suite.

The Met says that modernising Hammersmith Police Station will reduce running costs of the estate and also make more efficient use of space allowing for flexible working practices.

However, during the redevelopment it will not be safe or practical to maintain 24/7 public access at the current Front Counter and so this will be provided at Shepherd’s Bush Police Station Front Counter, one mile away from Hammersmith Police Station.

Upon completion the 24/7 front counter will return to Hammersmith Police Station.

The exhibition, beginning today, July 21 and continuing tomorrow and Saturday will be an opportunity for residents to view the plans and provide feedback.

Anyone wishing to attend can simply drop in during the following times.

· Thursday 21 July, 3pm – 7pm

· Friday 22 July, 3pm – 7pm

· Saturday 23 July, 10am – 4pm

The exhibition will take place in the canteen at Hammersmith Police Station, 226 Shepherds Bush Road, W6 7NX.
