Ealing To Take Action Over Flytippers | |||||
After residents report rise in dumped rubbish following new collection system
Local ward councillors say they are being inundated with complaints about dumped rubbish all over Ealing following the introduction of the borough's new collection service. On the 6th June the waste management system changed from black bags to wheelie bins which are now collected on alternate weeks - household waste one week and recycling another. Conservative Councillor Joanna Dabrowska, who represents Ealing Common ward and says she has been getting frequent emails and calls about flytipping. Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm says he has personally dealt with over 150 complaints and written to Ealing's Chief Executive demanding action.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: '' It's great to see so many residents using the new wheelie bins well and seeing the benefits of the new service. However, dumped rubbish is a blight on local streets and those responsible are liable to be prosecuted for this behaviour. ''While people get used to the new system, we are clearing these dumps and supporting residents to ensure they can and know how to get rid of their waste responsibly, but we will soon be changing our approach and will look to investigate and take action against those responsible. ''We all want our streets to be cleaner, the move to wheelie bins helps us achieve that.''
