In its first meeting last week, Acton Flood Action was formally established to ensure that Thames Water put in place both short and long term measures to prevent a recurrence of last summer's flooding.

In a meeting attended by Clive Soley MP and Cllr John Delaney, local residents appointed Cindy Barnes as their chair and agreed to establish a 'fighting fund' with a recommended £5 contribution per household.

The meeting also heard that since November, Thames Water have secured the £200,000 necessary to survey Acton's sewerage system.  This will be a vital first step in securing the considerable investment needed in long term improvements to the system and should be complete within the next 12 months.

In the short term, the meeting heard that the gullies on Horn Lane have been replaced by Ealing Council and that a new non-return valve has been installed on the corner of Myrtle and Chaucer Roads. Other short term measures are planned by Thames Water for homes that have been prioritised according to the risk of flooding.

The dates of future meetings will be listed on Actonw3.com.
