Parking bays on Talgarth Road are to be scrapped by Transport for London, forcing drivers to park on already congested streets such as as Baron’s Court Road, Palliser Road, Comeragh Road and Barton Road.

These streets could be affected by 70 more cars queuing up for parking spaces.

The area has already seen an increase of car parking of up to 75 per cent of cars since the introduction of the extended congestion charging zone one year ago.

According to Hammersmith and Fulham Council, TfL is justifying this measure by claiming that accidents can be caused by cars pulling out into Talgarth Road from the parking spaces, and that the weight of parked cars are having an affect on cellars in the area.

Talgarth Road resident Leon Alexander has started a petition and many others have expressed their anger at the scheme.

A neighbour, Jocelyn Jones, said:“There are an overwhelming number of residents opposing TfL’s plan. One of my neighbours is blind and relies on deliveries. He will not be able to afford the £48 every time they need to unload his shopping. There are many families with young children who will be unable to afford deliveries and even if a parking space were to be available around the back, they would not be able to carry their weekly shopping to their homes.”
