Four youngsters from the Grove Park area have collected a mountain of plastic over the last few weeks. Alex, Ben and Oliver Tait and Oliver McManus (aged 9 - 10 years) are hoping to shame Hounslow Council into encouraging more plastic recycling measures.

For the last three weeks the four boys have been collecting and recycling plastic up and down Spencer Road.

They told us, " We have had a great response from all our neighbours and friends. Before our project started we had about 2.5 wheelie bins full of rubbish.  Thanks to our project we have reduced it to half a wheelie bin. We hope that now we have finished our project more people will recycle plastic and not dispose of it."

They will be taking the plastic they have collected to Ealing Borough recycling depot on Stirling Road, off Bollo Lane.

A spokesperson for Hounslow Council said, "We are always keen to encourage residents to do their bit for the environment by recycling more, and admire the initiative these young people have taken. However, Hounslow's own Re-use and Recycling Centre, Space Waye, in Feltham, does accept plastics, and the Recycling Team has been looking at introducing plastics recycling sites at six locations across the borough."

The borough have apparently been running a plastics recycling consultation since mid-April, and residents can take part by visiting the Council's web site.
