Ealing Does Well In The Sweep-stakes

Council introduces initiatives for a cleaner, tidier borough

Ealing Council have announced plans to introduce weekly street cleaning of all streets in the Borough from July.

Councillor Portwood, who represents East Acton as well as holding the post Cabinet Member for Streets and Environment, said I am extremely pleased to announce this historic improvement keeping street cleaning; doubling the cleaning for most of the borough. This is only possible because the council agreed to spend an extra £500,000 on street cleaning, in the teeth of opposition from the conservatives.

Cllr Portwood also announced the introduction of four new Dumped Rubbish Investigation Units- rapid response teams picking up fly tipping, dumping and other rubbish on the streets. For the first time this service will now be provided at the weekend.

He claimed that Litter and flytipping plague our streets and Labour are determined to attack them vigorously. We know that people in our borough will welcome this major action against ant-social behaviour
