Mayor Rejects Post Office Privatisation

More Than 1,000 Residents Say "Save Our Post Office"

A group of East Acton residents presented local MP Andrew Slaughter with a 3,000 signature petition in support of the Post Office on Old Oak Common Lane this Monday. Bill Davidson of The Acton Alliance and John Palmer, Paul Keegan and John Keating, all of Old Oak Tenants and Residents Association were among the group.

He will be presenting the petition to Parliament in the next week, as he agrees with their view that this Post Office provides a vital local service that cannot easily be replaced should it close.

Andrew Slaughter anticipates that in general there will be very bad news on sub-post office closures but he is more optimistic about the fate of the East Acton branch. He has had a meeting with Post Office management who told him that they are 99% certain that they have a franchisee lined up to take over the Post Office in East Acton and ensure an unbroken service on the same site.

He said, "I will continue to monitor the situation over Post Office closures and ensure that constituents’ views are heard loud and clear by those who make these decisions which affect people’s lives so profoundly."
