gala hamzaA Hammersmith student was shot and killed near Earl's Court tube station in an incident which appears at this stage to be completely motiveless.

Galal Hamza, (pictured right) a 25 year old computer studies student from Somalia, who has no past criminal associations was returning from a salsa class with a friend. They were followed by three men, two black and one white, and when they turned to confront them, the white man drew a revolver and shot Mr Hamza in the forehead. He then fired a second shot at Mr. Hamza's friend who was hit but managed to escape.

The incident took place at the junction of Redcliffe Gardens and Old Brompton Road at 2.25am on Sunday 18th April. Mr Hamza was taken to hospital but died the following day. The surviving victim is under police guard in hospital.

Police say they can find no motive to the attack at this stage. It is possible that the victims may have been involved in a row with the three men earlier that evening. They are appealing to anyone who may have heard the shots to contact them.

Acting DCI Guy Ashley is leading the investigation. You can contact the incident room on 020 7321 9251; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
