'Challenging trading conditions' exacerbated by virus forces administration

Italian restaurant chain Carluccio’s has gone into administration and the recently appointed advisors FRP is "urgently looking at options" for the future, which include 'mothballing the business using government support' as well as trying to sell all or parts of the company. Their branches in Putney, Wimbledon and Ealing are currently closed due to the pandemic.

Carluccio’s began life in 1991 when Antonio and Priscilla Carluccio opened a food shop in Neal Street, bringing regional Italian food to London. It currently has 73 restaurants around Britain, 19 of which are in London and employs around 2,000 people.

When the chain had to follow Government guidance and close the doors due to coronavirus, the employees had been advised that this month they would only receive 50% of their wages.

In 2018 the company closed 34 of its restaurants as it underwent a Company’s Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) restructuring deal in a bid to secure its future.
