Local Churches urge Government to support fair trade

MP delivers trade justice cards to International Development Minister Baroness Amos

Ann Keen Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth this week delivered hundreds of pledge cards from local churches to the International Development Secretary Baroness Amos. Ann was given the cards at a meeting with local churches which ask that the Government do all in its power to make international trade fair for developing countries.

�I was pleased to be able to meet my constituents from local churches and listen to their concerns. It is so important that all countries can trade on an equal footing, in order to achieve this goal the support of the churches and other faith and community groups it�s vital. I delivered their views and concerns to the International Development Secretary earlier this week and presented her with their pledge cards.�

She said that the Government took the issue of debt relief and fair trade very seriously and that the work she had been doing with the Chancellor, as his Parliamentary Private Secretary is taking new steps to make trade fair.

Ann met with members many congretations from across the borough including the Brentford Free Church (representing Churches Together in Brentford) Christ Church, Turnham Green and St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park (CofE)
